Summary

Regency Therapy has a lot of appeal with the cute verbal repartee and awkward situations. The story is charming, and Lucy and Ryder have wonderful, witty dialogue. The setting of the retreat at a Jane Austen-themed resort is a nice touch, and the entire setup makes an enemies-to-lovers scenario work very well.

4-STAR REVIEW: REGENCY THERAPY by Lisa H. Catmull

The Description

The Jane Austen Vacation Club: Book 2
Publication Date: February 3, 2023

My publisher invited me to attend an all-expenses paid writing retreat at the posh new Hartfield Regency Resort in Loveland, Colorado. Carole isn’t nice like that—there must be a catch.

There is. His name is Ryder Hawk, the outlaw leader of the all-male Western writers who work for the same publishing company. He thinks he’s agreed to attend an all-expenses-paid week at a dude ranch.

Yeah, no. Carole has other ideas. She wants to break into the cowboy romance market. If I want to renew my writing contract, I have to do more than put up with Ryder and his gang of cowboy cronies for a week. We have to write together.

The problem is, Ryder and I have a history.

And it’s more like war than peace.

The Review

Regency Therapy by Lisa H. Catmull is a sweet, entertaining romantic comedy about historical romance authors and Western authors that are forced to interact at a publisher-sponsored retreat.

When Lucy Bliss encounters her nemesis and fellow author, Ryder Hawk, on the way to a writing retreat, she knows they are in for trouble. Why would their publisher bring together a group of Regency writers and Western writers with little in common—and force them to participate in several activities?

Parts of the story were genuinely funny. However, it only works if the reader is willing to suspend belief (something I’m not good at). It is implausible that this one publisher would have so many young, single, available authors to bring together in one setting. It is also unlikely that a publisher would pay for a non-promotional event like this. This list of unlikely occurrences is quite long. It was a little bit too much for me, even though the story was enjoyable.
