Mermaid Swimwear President Holly Schlivnik attends an industry Hanukkah party to honor Rapido Swimwear CEO Leni Waxman as the Mount Cedars Hospital Woman of the Year. The guest of honor collapses and dies in the middle of the event. An autopsy confirms that industry bully Leni expired as a result of poisoning by coming in contact with a purposely contaminated dreidel.
When Holly’s business partner is wrongly arrested for Leni’s murder, the wise-cracking, irreverent snoop sticks her nose everywhere it doesn’t belong to flesh out the real killer. But the trail has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster and nothing turns out the way Holly thinks it will as she takes on a ruthless killer hellbent on revenge.
I enjoy reading a series where I have an emotional investment in the characters and the smaller plots that are part of the bigger plot of the main story. The Holly Swimsuit Mystery series by Author Susie Black contains those elements and more.
In Death by Dreidel, the latest in the series, I want to know who Holly, the main character, winds up being with—Buddy or Miguel. I don’t know who I would choose, so I understand Holly’s trepidation over whom to select. I want her to be with both, but this isn’t that kind of book, so I guess I will have to be patient and wait and see.
I don’t think I have mentioned in my previous reviews how much I liked the book covers. They are very eye-catching and funny, charming, and a little silly. All in the best ways, making the reader want to read the books.
Not being of the Jewish faith or knowing anyone who practices Judaism, I was woefully uneducated. I appreciate all the information regarding the dreidel this book provided.
The story includes two funny ghosts who are not shy about trying to boss Holly around. However, Holly isn’t having any of it, and she won’t allow them to dictate her life, so it will be interesting to see what happens next.
I’m dying, pardon the pun, for the next installment of the series because I am so emotionally invested in Holly, the Yentas, the men, and the ghosts that I want to know what happens next and how things will play out.
Fast-paced and utterly entertaining, Death by Dreidel will captivate the readers from page one.
