Running on Empty serves as the second book in the Wine Country Cold Case series by Karin Fitz Sanford. This installment connects a 16-year-old socialite murder case with a destructive financial fraud scheme impacting local residents, family secrets, and a cast of greedy secondary characters.
The story flashes back to the murder investigation led by Anne’s uncle. It is interesting to see the original case in light of the connections Anne makes. She is a strong character, but eventually, the reasons for her career change are revealed.
Meanwhile, the search for missing money, possibly linked to financial fraud, takes a sinister turn. Anne will have to dust off all of her skills in order to solve this mystery.
Running on Empty features a family rocked by scandals on numerous fronts, and the destructive path begun almost two decades ago.
Karin Fitz Sanford, a former advertising copywriter, was born in New York but grew up in Northern California’s wine country, the setting for her Wine Country Cold Case series. Having run her own award-winning ad agency for over twenty-five years, she is a member of Sisters in Crime and lives in Northern California with her husband.
