Soon Kate and her unusual gang of sidekicks are unofficially, officially investigating. But before they can dig out the truth, a murder raises the stakes. Now they need to prove Larry is both mentally competent and not a killer. They’ll have to find the real murderer—without risking their own lives in the process.
Something Deadly on Desert Drive by Kris Bock is a cozy mystery, which is fast becoming my new favorite genre, next to romance. I like the little bit of romance that was thrown into the story. I thought that was a nice touch. It made me root for the female protagonist Kate.
I liked Kate. She’s smart and savvy. She thinks fast on her feet and doesn’t shy away from learning the truth and being as impartial as she can. Kate also had a solid sense of justice evident throughout the book. However, it wasn’t preachy, it was very well balanced, and I was very well entertained from the first page to “the end.”
I loved all of the secondary characters that made up the book. They made me laugh. I loved how they took charge and helped Kate solve the mystery.
I liked that no one decided to go half-cocked, do something stupid, and get themselves into trouble. I hate when characters do that. They’re told not to do something, and they go ahead and do it anyway, and then they need to be saved. Don’t do something stupid. Please.
I enjoyed Something Deadly on Desert Drive very much. If the reader wants to escape reality for a little while, try this book. It will do the trick.
