The Description

A Blue Water Mystery: Book 2
Publication Date: March 5, 2024

Two women’s lives intersect. One goes missing and needs to be found while the other must remain lost. Both their lives depend on it. Following a horrific event twelve years ago, Cheryl MacGregor disappeared from the city where she grew up and moved to a remote northern town, assuming a new identity with her husband, Jim. She thought she was safe from the danger that led her to flee—until her parents’ deaths last year. When Jim’s receptionist, Julia, mysteriously vanishes from her home Cheryl teams up with Detective Scott Evans for two to find Julia and to write the exclusive report that will forward Cheryl’s career as a journalist. While investigating the possibility that Julia’s disappearance may be linked to strange happenings at an abandoned mine, Cheryl uncovers a connection to her own former life, reminding her that the threat to her family is still out there. As wildfires threaten the town, Cheryl and Detective Evans race against the encroaching smoke to find Julia before it’s too late. When the investigation hits too close to home, Cheryl must face the reality that she may never be lost enough to escape her past.

The Review

When her husband’s secretary vanishes, Cheryl MacGregor is determined to search for clues even though she knows how easy it is to suddenly disappear.

With Lost, Like Me, author Ivanka Fear delivers the second installment in the Blue Water Mystery series. It can be read as a standalone since the author drops some clues along the way. However, in order to have a better understanding of Cheryl’s past, it is recommended to read The Dead Lie first.

The story unfolds with a mix of first-person and third-person narration, which is a bit off-putting because of a lack of consistency. Plus, it does seem rather unlikely that the police would allow a reporter like Cheryl full access to an ongoing investigation.

With that said, though, the story includes suspenseful elements, including an abandoned mine, drug deals, a biker gang, a missing baby, and a woman in love with the wrong man.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
