4.5-STAR REVIEW: MIRACLE AT ANGELS BEND by R. Christian Bohlen

The Description

Publication Date: October 24, 2024

Hannah fears the world will learn her dark truth.
God has forsaken this aspiring missionary . . .
and abandoned her to the shadows of the black market.

Hannah wishes she’d never taken the wheel that awful day five months ago. Then her father and brother would still be alive.

She also wouldn’t be addicted to the opiates prescribed after surgery—still frantically drug-seeking to dull her physical and mental agony.

Beyond forgiveness but desperate to maintain appearances, Hannah agrees to join a book club to discuss a mysterious, unpublished book about the life of Christ.

None of the readers, including others from her congregation, know the author’s identity.

And yet Hannah and the author aren’t the only ones harboring secrets: Life in the fast lane. Fractured family ties. Infidelity. Evading the law. Hypocrisy. Guilt and sin haunt each member of the group.

But the story discovered in the book’s pages may change them all. Only in confronting their secrets, doubts, and fears will they discover what they’ve needed all along—their Savior’s guiding love and redemption.

Fans of Lisa Wingate’s The Prayer Box and Charles Sheldon’s classic In His Steps will find inspiration in this faith-affirming tale for a modern era. Welcome to Angels Bend, where you too will experience a new relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Review

The teachings of Jesus Christ come to life through a contemporary lens in Miracle at Angels Bend.

Author R. Christian Bohlen introduces a number of relatable characters representing people at different stages in their faith. They come together in a group setting with a shared task of reading a book highlighting the teachings of Jesus.

These everyday people have everyday problems. Their spiritual tanks are at different levels, which adds plenty of fodder for discussion. Scripture serves as reinforcement for key concepts.

Using numerous metaphors for coming to faith and living in a relationship with Jesus, the author delivers a relatable approach illustrating the path to spiritual growth.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
