5-STAR REVIEW: THE WINTER VISITOR by B P Walter

The Description

Publication Date: September 23, 2025

The perfect family Christmas. The perfect murder…

In a snow-covered manor with views of the icy loch, the Weyman family gather for Christmas. A fire is roaring, presents are wrapped and carols play on the radio. And the Weyman brothers each have a fake smile on their faces…

Because George, Ken and Ralph are united by a terrible secret. And they are all desperate to know why their grandmother has summoned them. Playing happy families at Christmas has never been a Weyman tradition… especially after what happened twenty years ago.

Then, out of the whirling storm, a stranger knocks at the door. He has bright blue eyes and an impossible accusation.

George lies. Ken argues. Ralph hides. The secret they’ve kept for so long is about to come out.

But in the morning, the winter visitor is dead, a gold ornament through his heart.

One of them is a killer. Trapped in a storm, huddled by the fire, will they uncover the truth? Or bury it forever?

A brilliantly twisty festive thriller from the bestselling author of The Dinner Guest. Perfect for fans of Alex Pine, Lucy Foley and Lisa Jewell.

The Review

Christmas typically offers a joyful time of celebration for families, but Eileen Weyman plans to deliver quite a surprise.

Her pampered adult grandsons, along with their mother, are about to be cast out of the will. The sudden arrival and announcement from a stranger ratchets up the suspense.

Author B.P. Walter explores the intricacies of a severely dysfunctional family in The Winter Visitor. Haunted by a horrific secret from the past, the brothers are determined to stay unified.

That sense of unity is called into question after the visitor ends up dead, forcing the family to determine which one is a murderer.

The atmosphere creates the perfect scenario with the vast castle serving as the central location. The conversations are both brutal and somewhat humorous.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
