R.L. Mathewson — Author to Watch

R.L Mathewson is one of what seems like a million new authors to emerge since the ability to self publish to major outlets like B&N and Amazon exploded over the last few years. BUT, unlike so many of Mathewson’s contemporaries, her stories are consistently good!

If you set aside the typical editing flaws prevalent in most all self-pub titles, the stories themselves are all excellently written and undeniably entertaining.

The first book I read from this author was PLAYING FOR KEEPS, the first in her popular Neighbors from Hell series and to be honest, at the time, I only downloaded because it was free and sounded interesting. What a wonderful surprise it was to discover that it was more like a gift.
“Done with being the world’s biggest pushover, Haley decides that things are going to change starting with the aggravating neighbor who has too much charm and not enough restraint. What she didn’t expect was to be sucked into his world, but Haley has a game plan and she won’t let herself forget just what the bad boy next door is capable of.

The last thing Jason expected was for his little shy neighbor to go Rambo on him over some ruined flowers. After he decides to take her under his wing he can’t help but that notice that she fits very nicely in his life. Now the only left is to convince her that this is anything but a game.”

I simply lost count of how many times that I literally laughed out loud while reading Haley and Jason’s story or the times I had to fan myself a bit when things got good and steamy.

After that I was hooked and proceeded to DL every title available at the time from this author.

Besides the NFH series, Mathewson has also delved into the realm of the supernatural with her Pyte/Sentinel series…
“An abomination by birth, they are feared, hated and wanted by all.

Pytes live in a world where their immortality, strength, speed and ability to withstand the sun should make them gods on earth. Instead they are forced to live in fear. Their ability to create a stronger more powerful army of vampires has Master Vampires all over the world waging wars to find them and Sentinels determined to get them.

Even as they fight for their freedom they know that one day they’ll have to choose a side…”
…AND, two additional contemporary series plus her new Cursed Hearts series which is slated to begin this Summer.

Although my favorite is still the NFH stories, because of all the marvelous humor and snappy bickering, I really enjoyed the Pyte/Sentinel stories as well, for their Kenyon-esque, tortured heroes with a heart.
