In the spring of 1975, Ben Friedman will celebrate his rite of passage into adulthood. When his beloved grandfather suddenly dies and leaves him a mysterious inheritance, Ben begins to discover who he is and where he belongs. When he chooses a path his powerful father opposes, their relationship becomes volatile. Will Ben withstand the pressure?
In 1914, Dovid Weisman, Ben’s great-grandfather, struggles to protect his family when Germany declares war on Russia and the brutal Cossacks occupy his village of Siedlce, Poland. He finds that love and opportunity are still possible. If they can escape with their lives.
Slipping between war-torn Poland and modern American life, one family’s story is woven together across three generations.

How do you get your creativity flowing?
This is an important question. I maintain a disciplined writing routine. I set aside dedicated time each day to write, whether I feel inspired or not. I find that consistency often leads to those ‘Aha!’ moments of creativity. Often re-reading yesterday’s work will pull me back into the flow.
This sounds like a book that I would realy enjoy.
D. G. Schulman is a new author to me, but I look forward to reading this book.
Looking back on your life, who or what makes you instantly light up?
Reflecting on the challenges I’ve overcome and the lessons I’ve learned along the way brings a profound sense of fulfillment. These experiences have deepened my storytelling, adding layers of authenticity and resilience to my characters.
I like the cover! What time of day do you do your best writing?
My cover designer, Rae Monet, truly worked wonders. I had a vision, and she elevated it beyond my expectations. As for my writing habits, I find that the nighttime is when my creativity truly flourishes. At times, I might feel a bit weary, but the magic of my writing routine never fails to kick in. Once I’m in the zone, it’s as if I’m buzzing with inspiration. Occasionally, I’ll forego sleep entirely, instead resting in that dreamy state between wakefulness and slumber, where my imagination continues to weave scenes and chapters. Many of my story ideas have their origins in this ethereal realm.
Love the cover! Sounds like an interesting read.
What values are most important to you?
The values that are most important to me revolve around the idea of holding onto faith in something greater than oneself. Whether it’s faith in G-d, in humanity, or in one’s personal values, this belief enables individuals to find inner strength and resilience.
Faith in something greater reminds us that we are part of a broader tapestry, connected to the world and the people around us. It inspires us to act with kindness, empathy, and compassion, recognizing that our actions can have a profound impact on others. This belief in the interconnectedness of all things is a cornerstone of my life and my writing.
Moreover, it’s the essence of the characters and themes I explore in my books, including “Anna’s Promise.” The characters in my stories often grapple with their faith, not just in a religious sense, but also in their beliefs, values, and the enduring power of family bonds. It’s through this exploration that they find the strength to overcome challenges and adversities.
Thanks so much for your insightful responses, I wish you much happiness and success.
