5-STAR REVIEW: A NOBLE SCHEME by Roseanna M. White

The Description

The Imposters Series: Book 2
Publication Date: March 19, 2024

In the opulent and perilous world of high society’s most elite–and most dangerous–families, two investigators must set aside their broken hearts to uncover the truth.

Gemma Parks is known to the London elite as G. M. Parker, a columnist renowned for her commentary on the cream of society. Behind the scenes, she uses her talents to aid the Imposters in their investigations by gathering intel at events and providing alibis for the firm’s members through her columns. Yet her clandestine work would be more exhilarating if it weren’t for the constant presence of the gentleman who broke her heart.

Graham Wharton has never had eyes for anyone but Gemma, and she left his heart in tatters when she walked away from him. When the Imposters take on a new job to recover a kidnapped boy mistaken for his aristocratic cousin, Graham is determined to use the time with Gemma to not only restore the missing boy, but to also win back the only woman he’s ever loved. As they trace the clues laid out before them, Graham and Gemma must devise a noble scheme to save the boy’s life and heal their hearts.

The Review

The private detective firm of Imposters, Ltd. is hard at work once again in the splendidly told mystery ofcA Noble Scheme by Roseanna M. White, the second book in The Imposters series. While Imposters, Ltd. typically deals with the crème de la crème of the British elite, this particular case involves a request from a waiter (a waiter!) from the Marlborough Club in London. In an obvious case of mistaken identity, his son has been kidnapped, but by who and why?

Lord Yates Fairfax, head of the elite band of private investigators, doesn’t hesitate. In spite of their need for the funds, when a child is in danger, Imposters, Ltd. accepts the case—pro bono—no question. The kidnapped boy, Stanley Hart, has mistakenly been snatched by the kidnapper with the belief the boy is actually Horace Wilfred, son of the extremely wealthy and equally as unlikeable Lord Wilfred.

While members of Imposters, Ltd. are beyond compare in the various skills each brings to bear, they are also human and Gemma (aka G.M.) Parker and Graham Wharton have a wall of hurt, grief, and anger between them brought about by only the most extreme of circumstances. However, in the interest of finding and rescuing the boy, they come together, however reluctantly Gemma may be, to uncover the clues that will lead them to the missing boy. An exorbitant ransom has been demanded, and a deadline set only for Horace, the original target of the abduction, is eventually nabbed. This case grows more complicated by the minute, and time grows ever shorter to save both boys.

Each character in A Noble Scheme by Roseanna M. White is deftly brought to life with the perfect amount of new information as well as details brought forward from the first book that enrich and deepen the characters and their relationships within this tight-knit group of friends, family, and professionals. Imposters, Ltd. work day and night, bringing the reader along on their investigation to discover the kidnapper’s identity and ascertain their motive in the hopes of saving the boys from an uncertain future.
