4.5-STAR REVIEW: BREAK THE RULES by Julia Jarrett

The Description

The Vancouver Tridents: Book 1
Publication Date: April 24, 2024

I live by one simple my daughter and baseball are all that matter. Until I get traded to the same team my unforgettable vacation fling works for.

I wanted Willow Lawson from the first second I saw her, and once we gave in to temptation on the sunny beaches of Hawaii, I knew I’d never forget her.

But our fling was meant to be just that. A hot vacation hookup and nothing more. After all, she’s got a rule

Never date a baseball player.

When my agent lands me the deal of a lifetime with the Vancouver Tridents, it seems like the perfect move.

Until Willow walks into the conference room on my first day, and I realize maybe this time, our rules were meant to be broken.

The Review

A couple of years ago, I answered a call for reviewers from an author who was then unknown to me. Who would have guessed that Julia Jarrett would become one of my favorite authors? And now she’s starting a baseball series, and I’m all in!

Break the Rules is the first book in the Vancouver Trident series and follows Ronan and Willow. Ronan is a star baseball player and single father. Willow works in the marketing department for the baseball team and is the “niece” of the owner. Willow doesn’t date baseball players as she feels it would cause issues at work. Ronan doesn’t date due to his young daughter and only has short flings while on the road. These two have a one-night stand while on vacation, and then suddenly, Ronan is traded to her team, and the sparks are still there.

I really liked both Ronan and Willow. Ronan is very dedicated to his family, putting his daughter first in everything he does. He’s just so very likable, and it was easy to root for him to find his happily ever after. Willow is a very independent woman who knows what she wants and goes for it. But there’s this vulnerability that makes her feel more real. And the two of them together, well, sparks just flew off the page, and I couldn’t get enough. I felt their relationship was very well developed and kept me turning the pages.

I’m not the biggest fan of the workplace romance trope, but this one worked since it wasn’t a boss-employee pairing. There was enough baseball woven in to really feel like a sports romance and not just a romance with a character who happens to play ball. And the secondary characters, the other players, the families of Ronan and Willow, and the little cameo from Tori of the Donnellys of Dogwood Cove series, just make the book all the more well-rounded.

I absolutely adored Break the Rules. I laughed and cried and couldn’t put the book down. I can’t wait for this series to continue later in 2024 with Fake the Game.Buy Links
