5-STAR REVIEW: THE FIX-UP by Sharon M. Peterson

The Description

Two Harts: Book 3
Publication Date: June 17, 2025

Ellie should probably have listened to the part where inheriting her house came with a hot, grumpy stranger and six months to figure it all out…

Ellie Sterns is a twenty-eight-year-old single mother who only ever seems to date seriously questionable men. But she’s just inherited both a home and thriving café, so life is looking up. The catch? Only half belongs to Ellie—the other half goes to the previous owner’s grandson. Gilbert Dalton may be absurdly handsome, but his frown never wavers and he has a chip on his shoulder the size of a small country.

Ellie would happily spend the rest of her life avoiding him, but to claim their inheritance, they must first live on the property together for six months. For Ellie, the house and the café are her future. For Gil, they’re part of a past he wants nothing to do with. She wants to stay, he is determined to sell. Will they be able to decide what comes next without going to war with Ellie’s whisk and Gil’s toolbelt for weapons?

But somewhere between the snarky notes they leave around the place, and discovering a heartbreaking secret about the house’s previous owner, Ellie and Gil might learn that frustration can turn into sizzling chemistry, and hate can turn into not-hate—and that’s basically only one step away from love…

A totally uplifting, heart-stealing and addictive enemies-to-lovers romance full of sweet chemistry and true laugh-out-loud moments. Perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez, Emily Henry and Sarah Adams.

The Review

When you find yourself in a reading slump, there’s nothing better than discovering a book that makes you double over with laughter.

The Fix-Up by Sharon M. Peterson serves up a hilarious group of characters centering around a single mom with a broken man picker.

And yes, that is apparently a real thing. Ellie Sterns has receipts to prove it. It’s not until Gilbert Dalton shows up that life gets incredibly interesting. Both lay claim to a house and thriving business, but in order to inherit, they have to live on the property together for six months.

This enemies-to-lovers storyline features a bit of violence (attacking an “intruder” with a book) and all sorts of juicy tidbits packed into group text strands. Character development is top-notch, not only for the two main characters but also for the supporting characters, who add more flavor and depth.

About The AuthorSharon M. Peterson is a former middle school teacher and has the personality to prove it. One of her favorite quotes is from Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath: “It was her habit to build up laughter out of inadequate materials.” She strives to tackle life that way and create characters who do the same. Her first book, The Do-Over, was called “pure delight” by bestselling author Kristan Higgins. It’s slated to be translated into three languages (which is two more than she knows how to speak). Her second book, The Fake Out, released in July 2023 and is chockfull of really cheesy pick-up lines. She lives in Washington with her husband, and four children, including two autistic sons. She has one cat, two dogs, one tattoo, and an intense fear of poodles (don’t ask). Sharon can usually be found hunched over her computer, creating characters and stories she hopes you’ll love as much as she does.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
