5-STAR REVIEW: THE SECRET AT NUMBER 7 By Becca Day

The Description

Publication Date: September 18, 2025

The moment I meet Anna at number 7, I immediately like her. But her husband is staring at me with a strange expression on his face. It sends a shiver down my spine. And then a few days later, Anna is gone…

The second I see the moving van, I rush outside. My husband tells me to give our new neighbours space, but I need to know who they are.

When I see Anna, I’m in awe. Despite the chaos of boxes, she is glamorous, with perfect hair and elegant clothes. But her husband, Fraser, makes me nervous. I can’t explain it, but I don’t trust him.

And when my doorbell camera detects movement in the night, I’m instantly awake. Our road is usually deathly quiet. As I watch, I see Fraser lifting a large bag into his car. And now, Anna has disappeared.

Fraser tells everyone she’s away visiting family, but Anna told me she didn’t have any, it’s why she wanted to make friends here. Then I remember the bruises I saw on her arms…

I am convinced Fraser killed his wife.

The police dismiss me, and my husband tells me to leave it, but I can’t. I have to know what happened to her. But when I uncover the secret hidden inside number 7the truth is more dangerous than I ever imagined. And now I’m not sure I will make it out alive…

A gripping and page-turning thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Packed with twists, this psychological thriller is perfect for fans of Freida McFadden’s The HousemaidThe Girl on the Train and Colleen Hoover’s Verity.

The Review

Still suffering from PTSD after a home break-in, Miranda spends a significant amount of time watching her surroundings.

When a new couple moves in next door, Miranda leads the welcome for Anna and Fraser. However, she soon suspects something is “off” regarding Fraser with his deathly glares and angry attitude.

Author Becca Day delivers a tightly woven psychological thriller in The Secret at Number 7. The first part is delivered in first person from Miranda’s perspective before shifting to include Anna’s perspective in the second part.

The author manages to sustain the suspense by leading readers in one direction before delivering a twist. Is Miranda a reliable narrator, or is her imagination creating drama out of nothing?

The story’s fast pace creates an immersive experience that encourages readers to finish it from start to finish. As we get to know more about the characters, events from the beginning start to take on a different meaning.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
