The Lords of London: Book #2
Publication Date: March 30th, 2021
In bestselling author Ella Quinn’s intriguing new Regency trilogy, a dashing suitor must decide if love and marriage are mutually exclusive . . .
Viscount Gavin Turley is convinced that love matches cause nothing but trouble. Still, after months of courting, he’s fallen for Miss Georgie Featherton. He’s passionate about her, in fact. But words of love are not an indulgence he will allow himself. When he presents Georgie with his marriage proposal, he will lead with his head—not his heart. His qualifications as a husband are excellent, after all. What could go wrong?
No sooner does Gavin kneel on one knee than Georgie’s heart goes aflutter with joy. Finally, the proposal she longed for had arrived. Yet Gavin seemed to be listing his credentials for a business partnership, not a romantic union. Without a declaration of love, Georgie can only reject his offer—unless the ladies of the ton, and Georgie’s grandmamma, have anything to do with it. For sometimes it takes a wiser eye to see the love behind a guarded heart—and a clever scheme to bring it out of hiding . . .
Miss Georgiana Featherton just knows that her future lies with Gavin, Viscount Turley. In this delightful Regency romp, author Ella Quinn throws in a bit of a hiccup when Turley absolutely botches the proposal. Thus begins The Most Eligible Viscount in London, the third installment in the Lords of London series.
One of my first observations must be a compliment to the writer for using dialog specific to this historical period. I found myself so immersed in the story that I would look up various phrases since they have fallen out of common use today. It was so easy to transport myself into a time when breaking a simple social rule would result in “the cut direct.”
The light-hearted storyline, while incredibly serious for the characters, gave me plenty of opportunities to giggle. I felt very sorry for Turley as he realized the lengths he would have to go to win Georgiana’s hand. Poor Turley laments, “Why couldn’t procuring a wife be simple?” Little does he realize how many matchmakers are ready to jump in to ensure the Featherton-Turley nuptials will happen.
There’s Grandmamma Featherton and her close friend, the Duchess of Bridgewater; Georgina’s three friends, Henrietta, Dorie, and Adeline; and Adeline’s mother-in-law, the dowager Lady Littleton. Having picked up the series in the third book, I found that I was easily able to read this book as a stand-alone, but the supporting characters made me want to go back and experience their stories, as well.
Ms. Quinn does a phenomenal job of providing an interesting backdrop for the story to take place. Whether it’s an intimate sitting room or a garden spot outside, every detail plays a role. I was quite unable to put The Most Eligible Viscount in London down until I had finished it.
