5-STAR REVIEW: WHAT THE NANNY SAW by Kaira Rouda

The Description

Publication Date: November 13, 2024

I keep all her secrets. She thinks she can trust me…

Cecilia has it all. The house on the beach. The cute figure. The beautiful baby. But she’s a long way from perfect.

She’s let me into her gorgeous house as her nanny because now she’s on her own, she needs a little help with her baby daughter Peyton. She barely notices me. But I see everything.

While Peyton naps, I rifle through her drawers and discover the dark secrets in her past, the threatening letter from her ex-husband.

It’s a shame that Cecilia doesn’t have my powers of observation. If she took some time, she might just recognise me. I’ve been following her for a while, after all.

If she knew who I was then I don’t think I’d be so invisible. And she wouldn’t be so surprised one morning when little Peyton’s cot is found empty…

A completely gripping and unputdownable read that will have you turning pages deep into the night. Fans of Shari Lapena and Freida McFadden will be hooked by What the Nanny Saw.

The Review

A new mother overwhelmed with life finds relief at the hands of a nanny with a secret agenda.

The psychological thriller unfolds in What the Nanny Saw. Author Kaira Rouda serves up the second installment in the Family Secrets series. It can easily be read as a standalone, but once you get a taste, you’ll want to catch up on Cecilia’s back story.

With her relationship in tatters, Cecilia needs help caring for the baby. Her character is relatable to anyone who has experienced those sleepless nights tied to a baby’s schedule. Under normal circumstances, she might have wondered how the new nanny managed to appear at just the right time.

Lizzie may be the epitome of efficiency, but her all-knowing eyes are looking out for her own interests. The author does fantastic things with Lizzie’s character to add depth to the story. The cliffhanger at the end offers an opportunity for another story installment.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
