The raven had struck. And the thing was, she knew exactly who was next…
London, 1960. Marion Lane, a twenty-five-year-old apprentice detective at the elusive Miss Brickett’s Investigations & Inquiries, is busier than ever and determined to prove herself worthy of an official Inquirer badge. But when her close friend’s girlfriend, Darcy, is targeted by a dangerous gang leader and seeks out the Inquirers’ assistance, Marion cannot help but get involved.
Just when Marion thinks she has the situation under control, Darcy disappears and the agency receives a package containing a dead raven. Everyone is puzzled by what the threat could mean, except for Marion. She recognizes it as the same calling card left on her mother’s doorstep just before she died.
With harrowing twists and turns, Marion Lane and the Raven’s Revenge follows Marion’s most personal case to date. To uncover who is behind these ominous packages and find Darcy, she must piece together how they are related to her mother’s mysterious death and secretive past.
London, 1960. Marion Lane is excited to become a full-fledged Inquirer at Miss Becket’s Investigations & Inquiries, creating those clever gadgets all inquirers use in their investigations. But when her best friend, Bill’s girlfriend, becomes the target of a murderous gang, she is swept up in a mystery pointing back to her mother’s death.
Author T.A. Willberg’s third book in A Marion Lane Mystery series, Marion Lane and the Raven’s Revenge, is packed with suspense, thrills, mystery, and gadgets galore!
When Miss Becket’s receives a dead raven, Marion recognizes the threat as the same one her mother received before her death. This sets Marion on a path to discover who is behind this threat and how they are connected to her mother’s death.
What Marion and her friends discover will lead them down a path none of them expected, and Marion will find she must make choices that may jeopardize all she holds dear and all she thought she knew.
While I have read all three books in the series, the author has set up the book so anyone could easily pick up reading and understand what is happening. However, the story is enhanced by reading the other two books.
Willberg aptly depicts the underground labyrinth setting of Miss Becket’s as well as the East End of the 1960s and London proper, bringing them all vividly to life.
I loved how Willberg portrays the attitudes of the “Red Scare” of this time period and how that ultimately impacts Miss Becket’s future.
As with the previous books, Willberg has written a spunky, independent, intelligent heroine in Marion, and I am here for it.
Marion Lane and the Raven’s Revenge is a perfectly paced, well-plotted mystery-thriller with solid characters who evolve and are exceptionally likable. I highly recommend not just this book but this entire series.
