4.5-STAR REVIEW: WARRIOR REBORN by Clark Wiginton

The Description

Publication Date: May 9, 2023

Born into obscurity, poverty, and indifference in the 1960s in the heart of the African wilderness, Kisemei Kupe experienced neglect, hunger, loneliness, misdirection, abuse, and danger to a degree that very few in our Western culture could imagine. Reaching out for help, he devoted himself to Islam only to find himself in acute despair and hopelessness. Yet in the midst of these crushing circumstances, Kisemei experienced a dramatic encounter with the vision of a man he had never met and whose name he didn’t know. It was an encounter so genuine and a metamorphosis so drastic that it would set in motion a series of events that would lead him to face certain death for his actions. He was once a warrior for his village, but now a new warrior had emerged. This is a story that many of us need to hear today—a story that transcends the jury of society, an abiding story of truth and hope for us all.

The Review

It’s often challenging for people to understand what true suffering is if you are surrounded by the latest of modern conveniences where your every wish is merely a click away. However, when Clark Wiginton heard the life story of a man who grew up near Kilimanjaro, he knew it needed to be shared with others.

That story comes to life in Warrior Reborn, which details Kisemei Kupe’s path filled with sorrow and despair. A childhood filled with neglect and starvation is only part of his story.

As someone committed to the ways of the Maasai warriors, he finds himself drawn to a higher power. Although he tries Islam, he finds hope through a relationship with God. Stuck between his loyalty to his heritage and the Christian faith, Kisemei must face the wrath of his tribe.

His trials and tribulations eventually bear fruit, leading Kisemei to America, where he meets the author and shares his powerful testimony.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
