5-STAR REVIEW: DEAD END DEAL by Allen Wyler

The Description

Publication Date: March 13, 2012

Renowned neurosurgeon, Jon Ritter, is on the verge of a medical breakthrough that will change the world. His ground-breaking surgical treatment-using transplanted non-human stem cells-is set to eradicate the scourge of Alzheimer’s disease and give hope to millions.

But, when the procedure is slated for testing, everything comes to an abrupt and terrifying halt. Ritter’s colleague is gunned down and Ritter himself is threatened by a radical anti-abortion group that not only claims responsibility, but promises more of the same.

Faced with a dangerous reality, but determined to succeed, Ritter turns to a long-time colleague to conduct a clandestine clinical trial in Seoul, Korea. But after successful trials, Ritter and his allies are thrown into a horrifying nightmare scenario: the trial patients were murdered and Ritter is the number one suspect.

Aided by his beautiful lab assistant, Yeonhee Lee, Ritter flees the country and becomes the target of an international manhunt involving Korean Police, the FBI, zealous fanatics, and a coldly efficient assassin.

The Review

Someone is determined to stop a renowned neurosurgeon from using transplanted non-human stem cells to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

With danger mounting, Jon Ritter is caught up in a deadly game of cat and mouse in Dead End Deal. Author Allen Wyler delivers a top-notch thriller packed with energy.

The author’s personal medical experience shows through in how he effectively communicates high-tech procedures for a general audience to consume. Because the chapters are fairly short, the transitions are smooth and effective.

At the center of attention is Ritter and his ground-breaking research. However, when his test subjects are murdered, all fingers point to him. Facing international scrutiny, Ritter must evade a skilled assassin before it’s too late.

The story delivers an excellent bag of good vs. evil scenarios from the corporate CEO determined to get his hands on Ritter’s research to the cold, calculating assassin seeking a big payout to the detective determined to put all the pieces together.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
