About The Book

Publication Date: September 5, 2023

Aaron thinks nothing of it when Aaron Langford’s friend, Otis Thomas, gives him a divination tray as a housewarming gift. However, as weird occurrences begin to happen around him, Aaron’s life is suddenly thrust into turmoil with the disappearance of his son, Asher, and daughter, Imani. As Aaron’s marriage and life spiral out of control and the police zero in on him as the prime suspect in his children’s disappearance, Aaron realizes he and his friends may have unleashed ancient supernatural powers that were best left alone. In a desperate attempt to bring his children back and clear his name, Aaron decides to embark on an improbable journey with the help of the divination’s tray original owner, Urbi Houna, as his guide. Shadowland explores one man’s attempts to overcome death and despair as well as pierce the veil between life and death.

The Review

Aaron Langford moved his family from Washington, DC, to Seattle so he could continue his research into sickle cell anemia. The only problem is his family hates their new life.

Things take a sinister turn after a friend gives them a handcrafted divination tray as a housewarming gift. Author P.L. Hampton delivers plenty of horrifying chills in Shadowland.

What ensues is a story of demon possession as the line between the spirit and real world is opened. Soon, the Langford family is torn apart by the children’s disappearance from within a locked house.

While I thought it was interesting to connect events from Aaron’s past to the present, the African voodoo element was almost too excessive. I had some trouble reconciling his grandmother’s Christian faith with the pagan basement ritual.

Shadowland delivers a haunting tale of a family targeted by angry spirits set loose by mistake.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
