If an author takes the time to issue a warning to readers, that’s usually an indicator of things to come.
Author Louis Falcinelli offers such a warning in Welcome to the Madhouse. It is, quite plainly, a trip into insanity.
The main character, Darren, serves as the first-person narrator. While it is evident that he is a somewhat disturbed individual, the storyline unfolds like a failed hallucinogenic trip.
Add in a scatterbrained mother and her trusty advisor, aptly named Dr. Gag, to create a tongue-in-cheek adventure where the seemingly impossible turns into reality. The author clearly knows how to capably string together sentences, but my brain started hurting after only the first page.
Perhaps Welcome to the Madhouse will appeal to more cerebral readers, but for the rest of us, we might want to heed the author’s warning.
