She saved his life when they were kids and then he saved hers. When she became a young woman, Poppy knew she would never love anyone the way she loved Jack Lee Bridger.

But after a near tragedy, Jack left home to become a Navy SEAL and Poppy knew there wouldn’t be another like him. Not for her.

She remembered the way it felt when he looked at her with those smoldering eyes.

The way he kissed her.

Touched her…

Now it’s years later and danger is dogging her footsteps and Jack is back.

And Poppy knows that he will do anything—absolutely anything—to keep her safe. She trusts him to protect her body, but can she trust him with heart?

The Review

Only one person in the entire world can break through the ironclad exterior carefully crafted by Jack Bridger. That’s why the idea of betraying her leaves an awful taste in his mouth.

However, he will do whatever it takes to protect Poppy Octavia Porter. Author Lora Leigh turns up the heat with Play Dirty, the first installment of the Tempting SEALs: Triton series.

The chemistry between Poppy and Jack is absolutely off the charts. To understand their relationship, the author kicks the story off in the past, illustrating how even at seven, Poppy’s compassion toward a teen Jack breaks through his protective shell. It’s Jack who comes to her rescue when she is attacked as a teenager. Their shared kiss in the midst of an adrenaline rush serves to underscore their connection.

Eight years worth of silence has done nothing to dull the attraction. However, Jack knows Poppy is in danger connected to one of her bosses. That danger not only includes typical criminal activity like smuggling drugs and guns but also a highly advanced form of artificial intelligence.

As Jack tries to suss out the perpetrators, he faces a very adult Poppy who demands answers. The action heats up with an explosive finale.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
