5-STAR REVIEW: THE FAST LANE by Sharon Peterson

The Description

Publication Date: June 19, 2024

He’s the only person who can give me a ride to my brother’s wedding, and he’s also the one man I absolutely CANNOT have feelings for. My brother’s best friend is strictly off limits… Isn’t he?

I should have known my mom would go totally overboard packing for my brother’s big day. But much like my last break-up, I’d been optimistic (in denial) that it would all work out for me. Now, I can’t fit into the car. “Don’t worry,” my brother says, “I asked Theo to give you a ride.”

I flush all over and almost drop my phone. This is a BIG problem.

With his neatly trimmed stubble, fierce protectiveness and an affinity for plaid shirts rivalled only by his love of hiking, I’ve always had a crush on Theo. As a teenager, I’d even declared my feelings in a tragically bad poem. The rejection almost ended our friendship, and I’ll be taking that crippling embarrassment to my grave.

He’s the last person I want to be alone with on a six-day road trip; especially since I swore off men after my last relationship went up in flames. It would be a terrible idea anyway; he only sees me as his best friend’s little sister.

But as we fight over the playlist and are forced to share a night together when his car dies, it’s not distance that makes my heart grow fonder, it’s close proximity. Two thousand miles of flirting has my heart racing in the fast lane. Is it all in my head, or does Theo feel the same?

Will this be our second chance to go the distance, or will everything blow up in my face in the middle of my brother’s wedding?

An utterly hilarious and totally addictive road trip romantic comedy with sizzling but sweet chemistry and no third-act break-up. Perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Sarah Adams and Olivia Dade.

The Review

Hands down, Alicia Ramos nabs the prize as one of the most hilarious characters/pranksters to be featured in a romantic comedy.

She adores her small-town community and has no qualms about facing off against the mayor when needed. Rather than verbal battles, she prefers a more creative approach, such as revenge pranks.

Author Sharon M. Peterson delivers a top-notch friends-to-lovers rom-com in The Fast Lane. With one of her brothers getting married, it means a road trip for Alicia and her teen crush, Theo.

As practically a member of the family, Theo had gently spurned young Alicia’s affections. Now, as adults who have both weathered their share of break-ups, Alicia keeps friendship boundaries firmly in place.

However, a cross-country road trip puts them in close proximity and serves up some interesting challenges. The laughs are never far away, whether it’s Alicia’s helicopter mom or an effort to get Alicia into politics.

About The AuthorSharon M. Peterson is a former middle school teacher and has the personality to prove it. One of her favorite quotes is from Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath: “It was her habit to build up laughter out of inadequate materials.” She strives to tackle life that way and create characters who do the same. She lives in Washington with her husband and four children, including two autistic sons. She has one cat, two dogs, one tattoo, and an intense fear of poodles (don’t ask). She can usually be found hunched over her computer, creating characters and stories she hopes you’ll love as much as she does.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
