5-STAR REVIEW: GONE CRAZY by Terry Korth Fischer

The Description

Rory Naismith Mysteries Series: Book 3
Publication Date: July 22, 2024

A formal declaration of love scares the bejesus out of small-town Detective Rory Naysmith. As Valentine’s Day approaches, he evaluates his relationship with bookkeeper Esther Mullins, and decides to take her on a romantic date that ends with a poet’s murder. Assigned to the case, Rory pushes his private life aside. Things gets tricky after Esther is appointed Executrix for the estate-then rumors start that place a priceless item among the poet’s many possessions. The race is on to unearth the treasure and solve the murder, but it leaves Rory wondering if Esther will live long enough to become his Valentine-or end up as the murderer’s next victim.

Cozy mysteries have become my new passion for books, and I really enjoyed Gone Crazy by Terry Korth Fischer. If it has a little romance thrown in as well, all the better, in my opinion. I also liked the Native American characters that added to the story as well. I haven’t read many books with Native characters, so I was glad that they had a chance to be in this book. I thought the author was sensitive to the characters and didn’t portray them in any stereotypical way. Fischer made them the focus of the story, and I thought that was an important topic to bring up, as Native Americans should be seen in books and stories.

I liked the lead character, Rory Naysmith, and his quirkiness. He is awkward and can be blunt at times, but his heart is always in his decision-making, especially regarding Esther—no-nonsense, capable Esther. She was another character that I truly enjoyed.

Rory reminded me of Columbo. He was tenacious when it came to solving the crime and loyal to his wife/girlfriend. I liked his inner monologue and that he wanted to do right by Esther.

Esther was Rory’s perfect partner. She stood by him and allowed him to take the lead but could be a force to reckon with if Esther felt Rory was insensitive to her. She was capable, honest, and had a tender heart.

I’ve reviewed before for the now closed Romancing the Book. I love reading whether it’s an ebook or a good old-fashioned book book. The smell of a book is such a nice smell. I work with handicapped adults in my real life and I live in New York State.
