About The Book

Publication Date: November 19, 2024

Lizzie Finn grew up in a brothel, and she’s reminded of that fact every day. She dreams of finding a job and becoming independent. Only then can she be free of her aunt’s disdain. First, she must find an employer who won’t turn her away because of her past.

Byron Greeley is determined to save his family’s business after Lizzie’s uncle falsifies the amount Byron owes on a loan from the bank. Determined to find proof of Teague’s perfidy, Byron slips into the banker’s house and rummages through the study only to be discovered by Lizzie, a red-haired beauty who utterly captivates him.

Byron offers Lizzie a job in exchange for information about her uncle, and because she believes her uncle is innocent, she agrees. When Teague discovers Lizzie and Byron’s growing affection, he threatens to destroy Byron and his family, insisting Byron is exploiting her. Is Teague’s warning well-founded? Are Byron’s feelings for Lizzie true, or is Byron using her for his own gain?

The Review

A young woman in 19th-century Boston with esteemed family connections typically anticipates an arranged marriage.

However, author Tamara Hughes delivers a spirited main character in Loving Lizzie Finn, who has no intention of allowing her aunt and uncle to select her husband since she plans to remain unmarried.

That’s until she encounters Byron Greeley, who swears Lizzie’s uncle has changed the terms of a loan agreement, which will force him to lose the family business. There’s an interesting contrast of social classes, with Lizzie seeming to represent the upper class while Byron and his family are of the working class.

Lizzie’s background plays a key role in the story, offering some context into her troubled relationship with her aunt. Byron’s efforts to find answers seem to place him in Lizzie’s orbit, but is he interested in her as a woman or merely someone who can help save his business?

The heat gets turned up between the characters as they wrestle not only with the social aspects of a union but with unearthed secrets from the past.

Loving Lizzie Finn offers an engaging historical romance with a bit of intrigue.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
