A Washington Post Noteworthy Book

In this hilarious, heartwarming tale, mother-daughter skiing champs face the bumps in their own relationship when an avalanche in a Swiss village forces them together.

Alpine skiing G.O.A.T. Claudine Potts and her daughter, Wylie, have been bred for gold medal glory. They’re skiing their way to fame, but this gilded future is cut short when a fall forces Claudine’s retirement and Wylie’s debilitating anxiety sends her off the slopes.

With the collapse of their ski careers, their relationship falters and now it’s been years since Wylie and Claudine have even spoken. They live on opposite coasts, pursuing different passions, until a chance opportunity to pair up in a European fitness competition drives them back together. Can this duo survive snow-buried regrets and family secrets and have the happy reunion they’re hoping for?

Set in a dreamy Swiss village with a colorful cast of characters, Bluebird Day will make readers laugh and swoon, as Claudine and Wylie slalom through the complicated terrain of lost ambition, past mistakes, and mother-daughter love.

The Review

Author Megan Tady delivers a fresh take on the challenges of a mother/daughter relationship with Bluebird Day.

Wylie hasn’t spoken to her mother, Claudine, in two years. Rather than following in her mother’s footsteps as an Olympic skier gold medalist, Wylie walked away from the sport for art school. The silent treatment came later when Claudine made an ill-timed remark.

However, when Wylie finds herself without a partner for the BodyFittest Duo Competition in Germany, she knows only one person can step in—her mother.

Claudine jumps at the chance to rebuild the relationship but must take a quick detour to Switzerland under the pretense of spreading her father’s ashes.

Needless to say, the trip to Switzerland serves up a rude awakening for the pair as they settle into rustic hostel accommodations and develop new friends. Along the way, emotions run high, finally melting the ice between them.

The author adds a significant twist that threatens to undermine their fragile truce. There’s plenty of laughter packaged around the more serious moments.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
