Cupcake Catering Mystery Series: Book 7
Publication Date: January 28, 2025
Catering a post-Valentine’s Day Death by Chocolate dessert party should have been a delicious way to wrap up a week of romantic festivities. But when the new fiancé of the hostess is found dead during the event, clutching one of Emory’s chocolate cupcakes and a heart-shaped box of chocolates close by, the guests and the police put her at the top of their suspect list. With her cupcake catering business melting away as word spreads about the poisoning, Emory, and her octogenarian pal, Tillie, will need to pry into the sticky, dark secrets of the attendees. Will they uncover who’s been hiding a rotten center, or will the killer stir up danger and frost Emory for good?
Includes chocolate recipes!
With cozy mysteries mixed with delicious chocolate, author Kim Davis has penned an adorable tale in Chocolate Can Be Deadly, the seventh book in the Cupcake Catering Mystery series.
The story was an easy read, with well-fleshed-out characters, and this reader felt like I could run into one of these characters on the street. I even enjoyed the characters I wasn’t supposed to like simply because they were horrible, unlikable, and easy to cheer against.
The recipes in the book were a great addition, and I hope to try some of them. Some of my favorite books are those where the main protagonist cooks, bakes, or both.
The plot moved very quickly and kept me interested and engaged. I enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie with Emory (the main protagonist), Tilly, and Vanny. They were in sync with each other and were closer than friends. It was a nice dynamic to watch and be a part of.
Chocolate Can Be Deadly is a delightful, cozy mystery read with a fast-paced plot, delicious recipes, baking and cooking, and close friendships with fully created characters.
