The Description

Publication Date: March 27, 2025

Nestled among the cobblestone streets of Compiègne, there existed a bakery unlike any other.

Rumours were whispered through the town that its pastries offered a taste of magic, chasing away the darkest of sorrows. Just one bite of a croissant might bring luck, unlock a precious memory or reveal hidden longings.

But dark clouds were looming on the horizon…

For Edie Lane, a recipe for disaster doesn’t require that many ingredients. Take an unhealthy amount of wishful thinking and a sprinkle of desperation and that’s how Edie left everything behind in Ireland for her dream job at a bakery in Paris. Except the bakery isn’t in Paris – and neither is Edie.

This might not be where Edie intended to be but she soon realizes it’s exactly where she needs to be…

The Review

Edie Lane leaves her home in Ireland for a job at a Parisian bakery…or at least she thought it was in Paris.

When she finally arrives at her destination, which is actually an hour away from Paris, Edie soon discovers a world rich with possibilities.

Author Evie Woods delivers a romantic mystery to readers with The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris. The story shifts between Edie’s past and present while also delving into the bakery’s history.

A chance encounter with Hugo sparks an interesting relationship that leads to Edie questioning his motives regarding the bakery. The peppering of French words and phrases is enjoyable for those who know the language.

With humor woven into the storyline to make the characters more relatable, it proves to be an engrossing story highlighting Edie’s adventures in a place she never realized she needed.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
