The Description

Publication Date: June 3, 2025

He helps her hide until danger has passed. She hopes her cover lasts long enough.

When Stephanie Miller planned her visit to a dollar store in southern Ohio, she was expecting to pick up a few items she couldn’t find in her Amish community. She was not expecting to find herself an innocent bystander as a drug deal went horribly wrong. The sole witness to a murder, now Stephanie is targeted by the gunman.

Hardy Anderson is always ready to help his social worker sister, Bev–which now includes hiding an Amish woman until a killer can be brought to justice. Surely if they dress her in English clothing, Hardy can hide her at the sprawling ranch where he works. But the killer is desperate–and there’s no telling what lengths he will go.

The Review

An Amish woman’s life radically changes after she witnesses a deadly gang initiation outside a store in Ohio.

Author Shelley Shepard Gray introduces readers to Stephanie Miller in Unshaken. Stephanie, who gets caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time, suddenly finds herself sent to Kentucky for safety.

Without a clear understanding of how the world outside her home functions, the Dutch-speaking main character must trust a stranger with facial scarring. Hardy Anderson may look menacing, but he will protect Stephanie.

However, distance doesn’t matter to someone who has failed his gang initiation. It’s just a matter of time before Stephanie’s trail is discovered.

As an Amish romantic suspense, the story blends all the necessary components. Stephanie’s faith is solid, even as she adapts to the outside world.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
