5-STAR REVIEW: THE LOVE FIX by Jill Shalvis

The Description

Sunrise Cove Series: Book 8
Publication Date: June 24, 2025

Welcome back to Sunrise Cove for this heartwarming enemies-to-lovers tale where found family, forgiveness, and love may just be the key to finding yourself, from New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis.

Lexi Clark’s life is falling apart around her, so when she’s summoned home to Sunrise Cove, the last thing she wants to do is face all the complications she left behind. Her past, her stepsister Ashley, and especially her infuriatingly gorgeous childhood nemesis-turned-crush Heath Bowman.

Yep, Lexi’s pretty sure being home again just might kill her. She’s an overachieving art appraiser who doesn’t believe in trust, love, or Happily Ever Afters. Free spirit Ashley, on the other hand, is so full of life it hurts to look at her. But Lexi can’t refuse Ashley’s plea to honor their late mother’s final wish to make amends with the people she’d wronged.  So, on behalf of her estranged mother’s estate—and with Heath in tow as the executor—Lexi embarks on a road trip to repay all the people her gambling addicted mother owed money to.

Complicating everything are the feelings that well up for Lexi: for her mom, for Ashley, and most of all, for Heath. And for the record, she doesn’t like it, or the way he has of scaling the walls she’s built around her heart. The road trip shenanigans that ensue are both funny and heartbreaking, but Lexi finds something shocking along the way. Acceptance. Family. And unbelievably—if you ask Lexi anyway—love.

The Review

Lexi Clark faces a crossroads as an adult. One path is the status quo, where she finds herself still jobless and dumped. The other path takes her back to her childhood home, filled with memories she would love to forget.

With these options in mind, author Jill Shalvis creates an emotion-packed story featuring complex family relationships and an unresolved attraction involving a childhood nemesis in The Love Fix.

A hardened exterior supported by a bit of sarcasm insulates Lexi as she arrives in Lake Tahoe for a reunion with her boisterous stepsister Ashley. It’s a year after their mother’s death, which leads to the revelation of a separate provision in the will. The sisters must perform a shared task as part of Daisy’s final wishes.

What adds a layer of complexity is Lexi’s troubled relationship with Daisy and the memories involved. Her pain is evident as the story develops, but both Ashley and Heath try to chip away. The connection Lexi and Heath share is electric, but neither one really knows what to do with it. They initially settle into trading insults before forced proximity offers an opportunity for their external shields to drop.

Is it just a matter of time before Lexi returns to her other lonely life, or will she be able to heal the deep emotional wounds that might allow her to stay? The supporting characters provide plenty of humor, whether it is Heath’s grandfather or the nursing home ladies.

The Love Fix demonstrates how even the prickliest person can blossom with love and attention.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
