4.5-STAR REVIEW: PERILOUS TIDES by Elizabeth Goddard

The Description

Hidden Bay: Book 2
Publication Date: July 15, 2025

High-Stakes Romantic Suspense from USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard

Three years after her mother’s suspicious death, forensic artist Jo Cattrel is in hiding, working at a storm-watching lodge along the Washington coast. When her father sends her a disturbing and cryptic message, Jo leaves the safety of the lodge to find him. But during the ferry crossing, Jo witnesses a murder–and becomes a target.

More surprising to Jo than being in danger is the identity of the person who steps in to protect her–none other than her ex, former Green Beret Cole Mercer. Now a private investigator, Cole has been looking into her mother’s death. If he can just uncover the truth, maybe Jo can end her self-imposed captivity and the two of them can pick up the pieces and build a future together.

As Cole and Jo search for answers, the past rushes in like a dangerous tide before the truth can be revealed.

This action-packed clean thriller set on the Washington coast serves up a complex plot and sizzling second-chance romance that readers of Irene Hannon and Lynn H. Blackburn will enjoy.

The Review

From the opening pages, author Elizabeth Goddard sets the tone for plenty of non-stop action in the second installment of the Hidden Bay series.

Perilous Tides begins with a nightmarish scenario involving the main character being trapped inside a car that had rolled off a ferry and into the water. To make matters worse, the driver’s foot is tied to the pedal, and there’s a dead body in the backseat.

That’s just the beginning. Jo Cattrel’s rescue puts her in the arms of Cole Mercer. To say they share a connection would be putting it mildly. However, Cole’s current investigative case relates to the suspicious death of Jo’s mother.

The suspense rises as the characters try to determine why Jo was lured out of hiding in the first place. As a Christian thriller, the book focuses heavily on a well-developed plot with the second-chance romance as a bonus.

Through all of the twists and turns, Cole and Jo rely on faith to get them through. Their resilience serves as a powerful example, especially when hidden secrets are revealed.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
