5-STAR REVIEW: WELCOME TO THE FAMILY by Cathryn Grant

The Description

Publication Date: August 29, 2025

They invited me in. They shouldn’t have…

I knew the moment I met Daniel that I would marry him. As I meet his family for the first time, I say a silent prayer. It’s important that I make a good impression… and that they don’t discover why I’m really there.

Over a lavish family dinner, I take in their tight-lipped smiles. His mother watches my every move, his brother flirts dangerously with me and his sister maintains her thunderous expression as she carefully avoids any questions about the family. I can tell they’re all hiding something from me. And little do they know, I already know what it is.

You see, I’m not the only girl Daniel and his brother Elliott have brought back to meet their mother. Those other girls all disappeared. But I intend to make it out alive.

I’m going to uncover the secrets this perfect family home holds. And they’re going to regret ever welcoming me to the family.

Fans of The Housemaid, The Perfect Marriage and Gone Girl will absolutely love this addictive page turner packed with nail-biting tension and jaw-dropping twists.

The Review

Claudia eagerly looks forward to getting to know her fiancé’s family, but she never expected the opulence and feelings of uncertainty.

Welcome to the Family captures the anticipation of a young woman eager to get to know her future in-laws. However, author Cathryn Grant weaves in multiple twists, ratcheting up the psychological angles.

The icy reception soon offers insight into the main characters. There’s the potential mother-in-law whose mercurial personality blows hot and cold depending on whether Daniel is present. The overly flirty younger brother and the smug sister who drops snide comments round out Claudia’s future family.

With no way to leave the family compound, Claudia uses emails to her sister to document her frustrations.

The second part of the book highlights a new fiancée named Renee. As secrets start to be revealed, Renee pushes back against the gaslighting.

The stunning conclusion delivers unexpected revelations to wrap up all of the loose ends.

About The Author

Cathryn is the author of over thirty psychological suspense novels. The things that cause torment in real life—obsession and revenge, guilt and envy and longing—are endlessly fascinating in fiction, and she never grows tired of writing stories about characters struggling to overcome the worst. Cathryn also writes ghost stories because… who knows what lies beyond our senses.

When she’s not writing, she’s usually reading, walking on the beach, or playing golf, going way out of her way to avoid hitting her ball in the sand or the water. She lives on the Central California Coast with her husband and their cat, Cleopatra.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
