A Misty Pines Mystery: Book 3
Publication Date: September 30, 2025
A peaceful retreat. A maze of smoke and murder. Is their remote getaway about to become a death trap?
Sheriff Jax Turner is worried about going off-grid and leaving his young team of deputies behind. But while his getaway with his ex is meant to help them reconnect, Jax is distracted by signs of a break-in at their rented lookout.
After a string of unsettling events and an approaching wildfire turn their isolated retreat into a danger zone, he’s stunned to find a dead body with marks tying it to a killer he put away a decade ago.
Terrified that his attempt at reconciliation has led them both into a fatal setup, Jax rushes back to his estranged wife before she joins the list of victims. But his dedication to serving and protecting could become an Achilles heel as other players join them among the darkening trees.
Can he fight his way out of the woods before the flames of revenge consume everything?

Sheriff Jax Turner gears up for a romantic getaway in a reconciliation effort with his ex-wife, never expecting they will be heading straight for danger.
Author Mary Keliikoa serves up the latest installment in the Misty Pines mystery series with Killer Tracks. Although this marks the third in the series, the author does a fantastic job providing ample background.
There’s action unraveling on two fronts. Rachel and the other deputies tackle a homicide with eerie connections to the past. This part of the story stands out because it offers an opportunity for the secondary characters to take on more depth.
Meanwhile, the getaway takes a chilling turn when strange things happen near the cabin. Jax and his ex-wife, an FBI agent, are more than capable of taking care of themselves, but there is a bit of a wrinkle complicating the situation. Add in a plot for revenge, plus a wildfire, and the danger mounts.
Killer Tracks delivers an action-packed thriller that threatens to destroy Jax’s efforts for a fresh start.

Eighteen years in the legal field, and an overactive imagination, led Mary Keliikoa to plot murder-novels, that is. She is the author of the domestic thriller Don’t Ask, Don’t Follow, the “Misty Pines” mystery series which is an IPPY Silver and Bronze Award winner, Silver Falchion finalist, and a Foreword Indies award finalist, and the “PI Kelly Pruett” mystery series which is a Shamus and CLUE Finalist, and has been nominated for a Lefty, Agatha and Anthony award. Her short stories have appeared in Woman’s World and the anthology Peace, Love and Crime.

Great review! This sounds like a really good series!
