4.5-STAR REVIEW: THE OTHER PATIENT by Daniel Hurst

The Description

Publication Date: July 20, 2026

She has everything I’ve ever wanted. First, I’ll take her name. Then, I’ll steal her life…

I turn my head and stare at the woman lying in the hospital bed next to mine. She has long brown hair, high cheekbones and dark eyes. She looks so much like me, we could easily be mistaken for one another. And that’s how we ended up here. I planned it.

Freya has the kind of life that most people would kill for – more money than she knows what to do with and the freedom to spend her days as she chooses. But I don’t think she deserves any of it.

I’ve spent months watching Freya as I clean her huge house and obey her every demand. She thought I was just her cleaner, but she underestimated me. I know her darkest secret – and I’m going to use it to get everything I want.

So while she was unconscious, I stole her name. She has no idea what I’m capable of. Or what I’m going to do next…

From the number one bestselling author Daniel Hurst, The Other Patient is an utterly addictive, nail-biting read packed full of twists that will make you gasp out loud and leave your jaw on the floor. Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden, T M Logan and Lisa Jewell.

The Review

A house cleaner and her reclusive boss get caught up in a jaw-dropping adventure featuring swapped identities, a vengeful ex, and even murder.

Author Daniel Hurst uses this as a foundation for The Other Patient. While it starts a bit slowly, the pace picks up once helpful background details are provided.

A car wreck lands both Freya and Iris in the hospital, but the story begins with Iris claiming Freya’s identity and seemingly heading out to reap the riches Freya has gathered.

The author delivers one twist after another to propel the storyline forward until the shocking conclusion. This is one time when early guesses about the end will not work.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
