About The Book

Publication Date: October 20, 2026

For fans of Laura Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me and William R. Forstchen’s One Second After comes a riveting thriller about an internet blackout that leads one woman into a web of lies and conspiracies and in her pursuit for answers.

Rachel Farrell is working from home in suburban Virginia when the internet goes out. Juggling clients, two restless teenagers, and dinner logistics with her husband, Caleb, a DC lobbyist, she assumes it’s just a routine inconvenience.

Then she finds his note, warning they are in danger and not to trust anyone.

When FBI agents show up looking for Caleb, Rachel realizes something far more sinister is underway: a nationwide internet and phone outage, and Caleb’s biggest client―a powerful Chinese semiconductor company―is at the center of suspicion.

As the night wears on with no word from Caleb, Rachel’s unease shifts into something darker. The man she has been married to for two decades may not be who she thought he was. Fearing for their safety, Rachel and her children embark on a harrowing cross-country journey to find Caleb and hear his explanation. But the more she learns, the more she suspects he may be in on the plot.

Following the clues to a remote compound in South Dakota, Rachel begins to piece together the truth about her husband, his business dealings, and a conspiracy that reaches far beyond anything she ever imagined.

In the end, Rachel has no choice but to uncover the real culprit behind the outage before it costs her everything.

The Review

After two decades of marriage, Rachel Farrell thinks she knows her husband, Caleb. Between a nationwide cyberattack and a visit from the FBI, that trust starts to fray.

Author Mike Trigg serves up a timely thriller in Outage. How much does Caleb know about the attack? Was he actually involved?

The author weaves a fantastic plot that forces Rachel and her teenage son and daughter to travel across the country in search of answers. Hounded by danger, they try to determine why Caleb would have left a note warning not to trust anyone.

To unravel the conspiracy, Rachel must take on an adversary willing to commit treason in an effort to reach the pinnacle point between artificial and human intelligence.

Outage takes readers on a thrill ride from start to finish as competing agendas threaten to destroy the Farrell family.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
