3-STAR REVIEW: WELCOME TO THE MADHOUSE by Louis Falcinelli

The Description

Publication Date: November 14, 2023

Darren has just begun to endure a breakdown of monumental proportions. His socialitemother, already consumed with preparing her daughter’s lavish wedding, seeks to shield herself from possible humiliation brought on by her social circle as a result of her son’s condition. In desperation, she turns to the family’s lifelong advisor, Dr. Gag, a deranged figure who dreams up an experimental psychiatric facility where patients previously institutionalized are given the opportunity to treat others through a mixture of conventional and unconventional methods.

Darren is involuntarily admitted, finding it to be the worst place, run by the one he most detests, Dr. Gag.

We follow Darren on his journey of unparalleled pain and pleasure as he forges relationships of the deepest, darkest kind while ultimately battling his biggest demon yet—himself.

The Review

If an author takes the time to issue a warning to readers, that’s usually an indicator of things to come.

Author Louis Falcinelli offers such a warning in Welcome to the Madhouse. It is, quite plainly, a trip into insanity.

The main character, Darren, serves as the first-person narrator. While it is evident that he is a somewhat disturbed individual, the storyline unfolds like a failed hallucinogenic trip.

Add in a scatterbrained mother and her trusty advisor, aptly named Dr. Gag, to create a tongue-in-cheek adventure where the seemingly impossible turns into reality. The author clearly knows how to capably string together sentences, but my brain started hurting after only the first page.

Perhaps Welcome to the Madhouse will appeal to more cerebral readers, but for the rest of us, we might want to heed the author’s warning.Buy Links

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.

  1. Hi Amy, do you charge a fee for reviewing my book? I am in the process of publishing my second book that I think you might enjoy. Can you email me back so that I can tell you more about me situation? Thanks, Jack
