4-STAR REVIEW: GRAVITY LET ME GO by Trent Dalton

The Description

Publication Date: October 1, 2025

Gritty, hilarious, moving, and full of secrets and mystery, an irresistible novel from the #1 internationally bestselling author of Boy Swallows Universe and Lola in the Mirror.

It’s the story of a murder. It’s the story of a marriage. It’s the story of a lifetime.

Noah Cork has just published the biggest book of his career: a white-hot true-crime story about the cold-blooded killer who slipped an unfolding murder mystery into his mailbox. But if this is his moment of triumph, then why is the tin roof being ripped from the walls of his reality? Why are skeletons standing upright in his closet? Why do people want to run him over in the street? And why does his wife keep writing a cryptic message across the bathroom mirror?

As a severe storm heads towards Brisbane, Noah hurtles headfirst into a swirling maelstrom of secrets. He must now cling for dear life to the only story that ever really mattered. He must hold on to the truth. He must hold on to the story. He must hold on to love.

Dark, rollicking, hilarious, and surprising, Gravity Let Me Go is Trent Dalton’s deeply personal exploration of marriage and ambition, truth-telling and truth-omitting, self-deception and self-preservation. It’s a novel about the stories we want to tell the world and those we shouldn’t, and how the stories we keep locked away are so often the stories that come to define us.

The Review

Noah Cork should be celebrating the publication of a true crime book instead of watching reality try to slip away.

Author Trent Dalton serves up an intriguing story in Gravity Let Me Go. Set in Australia, the storyline uses witty banter to showcase an excellent example of literary fiction.

At the center is a man who documents a murder story courtesy of a random tip, but his world is decidedly off-kilter. Although the writing is incredibly smart, it does require the reader to pay attention, or something will be missed.

Worries about talking skeletons and the impact of missed health appointments, combined with a non-talking wife and a storm to generate ample twists.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
