5-STAR REVIEW: REINHARDT by Marianne Scott

The Description

Publication Date: November 6, 2022

He’s a Cold War spy hiding from one of his own. His real identity is tied to a treacherous past associated with American intelligence operations closed down after the end of the Cold War, and his enemy is relentless. All he has to do is change his name. Right? Wrong. Very wrong. Felix has eyes and ears everywhere.

The Review

When the government disbands an American intelligence unit, no one realizes it would send the leader into a spiraling descent where all his agents suddenly become targets. Felix is determined to eliminate them and will use everything at his disposal to make it happen.

Darren Masterson and his partner return from an assignment in Russia only to find their boss has painted targets on their backs when they refuse to lie about Russian counter-actions. Author Marianne Scott delivers a pulse-pounding thriller in Reinhardt.

Even with name changes and new lives, Felix lurks in the background. He’s like a master chess player removing people from the board. Darren, who becomes Henri, finds a new path in France. As time goes by, he builds a family and becomes complacent. The writer does a wonderful job detailing life on the peaceful vineyard and the happiness Henri finds there with Monique.

When tragedy strikes, Henri becomes Reinhardt. In a twist of fate, he makes a startling discovery that provides him with the tools he will need in fighting Felix. With his former partner at his side, along with other members of the team, Reinhardt is ready to regain control.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
