3.5-STAR REVIEW: ACCUSATIONS by Fran Lewis

The Description

Faces Behind the Stones: Book 5
Publication Date:

A funeral can evoke sadness on the faces of those attending, especially when they reach the cemetery. Looking at those faces, I begin to wonder what they are thinking, and possibly what they are hiding.

As I scan the tombstones, I contemplate whether many of the faces behind these stones were wronged during their lives and I can hear them speaking to me. They want to tell me how they ended up here. Were they guilty of great evil in their lives, or were they wrongly accused?

Listen as they tell their stories, and chills will run down your spine as you learn: What lies behind the stones, because each of these voices was silenced in life by the evil of others.

Hear their words…
understand their reasons…
and then decide:

Were the Accusations wrong?

The Review

Gravestones may not mean much to strangers, but in the latest compilation of the Faces Behind the Stones series, author Fran Lewis delivers an assortment of eerie selections highlighting the people in those graves.

Accusations draws upon tales featuring characters targeted for doing evil things, but whether they were falsely accused is left up to the reader.

Fifteen short stories are included in this selection, with deaths ranging from suicide to murder. Readers won’t find stories about much-loved Grandma Ethel, who died peacefully in her sleep. Instead, these stories all pack an unexpected twist.

While there is a definite sense of the macabre, I would have liked to see a bit more development in the individual stories. However, I also say the same thing about many of Alfred Hitchcock’s tales, which certainly have this same kind of flavor.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.

  1. These are true stories told to me by the person who experienced them which is why I left the character development true to life. Thank you for your review
