The Review

Kidnapped in the Woods by Deena Alexander had my heart racing and adrenaline high from the first page to the last. A wonderful read full of suspense and intrigue but also some Christian undertones with prayers and talks about their beliefs along with romance.

This is Rachel and Pat’s story, along with Jane, who they are trying to save from being a victim of human trafficking. Their paths cross when Rachel and Jane are chased by kidnappers, gunmen, and crime family members. He doesn’t know what he’s in for, but he’s all in as he tries to protect these unexpected and vulnerable visitors to his uncle’s cabin. The addition of Pat’s search and rescue dog, Shadow, was heartwarming since Jane took to him immediately.

The story was filled with twists, turns, and many unexpected decisions and events. Not everyone was as they seemed, which added another layer to the story. There were vivid descriptions, and I could feel the cold, hear the waves and feel their fear.

It’s good guys against bad, and there is much more evil in their midst than they’re aware of. Pat and Rachel don’t know who to trust and often doubt the other’s motives. There is a wonderfully crafted conclusion with loose ends tied up and several happily-ever-afters. I only wished the story had an epilogue to draw us into the future.

Kidnapped in the Woods is set along the New York coast with vivid wintry descriptions and pulse-pounding action. I couldn’t wait to see if the good guys could pull out the win! Ms. Alexander is a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading more of her books.
