New Orleans: live music, endless drinks, brightly-coloured attractions, the perfect place for a party…
The bride-to-be
The best friend
The cousin
The mother-in-law
The sister
The groom’s friend
The bachelorette begins on a Friday night; all six women are excited for a chance to escape their everyday lives. But then friendly rivalries turn vicious, and a game of truth or dare turns deadly.
By the end of the weekend one of them will be dead…
All Rosalee wants is to marry Asher, but her future mother-in-law insists on an overblown event as part of a family tradition. Before the vows, Rosalee also needs to check off a weekend in New Orleans planned by her best friend—with some unusual people on the guest list.
Author Carissa Ann Lynch mixes up the ingredients for the ultimate pre-wedding bash in The Bachelorette Party. What could go wrong with a party of six?
The author’s deviousness comes out with the guest list that includes Rosalee, her best friend, her cousin, her future mother-in-law, her future sister-in-law, and Asher’s female best friend. From the beginning, it’s clear that a weekend at an allegedly haunted mansion might not be the best idea, especially with the rivalries within the group.
By the time the party ends, one of the women will be dead in a truly macabre display. For maximum impact, the author uses multiple viewpoints to build the story following the prologue. The police investigation and subsequent interviews are also included throughout the story.
This approach works well in building and maintaining the suspense. By the time the body appears, everyone has a motive of some kind. The conclusion comes with an unexpected twist that ties everything together.
The Bachelorette Party delivers a fascinating thriller full of dysfunctional women with secrets.
