5-STAR REVIEW: KEEPING JANIE by S.R. Fabrico

The Description

Southport Series: Book 2
Publication Date: February 27, 2024

Embark on an exhilarating journey with Lizzie Levine, the beloved character from the award-winning novel Call Her Janie. In this riveting sequel by S.R. Fabrico, set against the picturesque backdrop of Southport, North Carolina, the stakes soar, twists abound, and the drama intensifies.

Reuniting with her daughter, Janie, should be the start of Lizzie’s picture-perfect life. Behind the scenes, however, is a different matter. The happiness of having her daughter back is overshadowed by the fear and distrust of her ex-boyfriend, billionaire Gray Stone.

Amidst the tapestry of wedding preparations, the custody fight looms. The story unfolds in a battleground of secrets, lies, and deception. In this gripping narrative, love and lies entwine, danger lurks in the shadows, and the courage to confront one’s past becomes paramount. Can Lizzie gain custody of her daughter, marry the man she loves, and have her happily-ever-after, or will the mistakes of their past destroy them all?

The Review

All Lizzie Levine wants is a happily ever after now that she has been reunited with the toddler daughter she thought had died at birth.

However, danger from the past continues to threaten their new lives in Southport, North Carolina. With the second installment of the Southport Series, author S.R. Fabrico continues to weave a tangled web of suspense that began in Call Her Janie.

The familiar characters pick up where the last book stops. This time, however, it appears that Gray Stone, Janie’s billionaire father, is working hard to accept he lost his chance with Lizzie. However, given the complicated custody case orchestrated by Gray’s wife, naming her as Janie/Sophie’s mother, there’s no doubt that Gray plays a pivotal role.

Keeping Janie explores the roller coaster ride of the legal system, along with the strain it leaves on the relationship between Lizzie and her fiancé, Josh. The beloved bookstore once again illustrates small town flavor, as do the Fourth of July festivities.

The author’s surprise twist at the end serves as a bold move, leaving readers full of questions and pondering an alternative ending full of happiness and joy. I suspect the third installment will provide valuable insight.

Keeping Janie delivers a powerful thriller highlighting the bond between mother and child threatened by secrets and lies.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
