Poppies, Perils, and Poison is the second book in Erica Wynters’ cozy mystery series Camelot Flowers Mysteries. I look forward to reading more, including the first book I missed, since it would help fill in the gaps.
Gwen is an amateur sleuth who is always one step ahead of the cops. One of the detectives, Finn, is a potential boyfriend, along with her childhood friend Chris. Her best friend, Penny, is her sidekick and, at times, is her motivation. There are some interesting moments when Gwen spends time with them.
The story has so many layers and laugh-out-loud moments as Gwen gathers clues. But she also continuously puts herself in dangerous situations and comes up with some strange ways to determine the truth of whodunnit. Dumpster diving, anyone? Several stories are entangled within the main arc as we get familiar with the characters, the businesses, and their small town. There’s also gossip and finger-pointing. Gwen solves the mystery of whodunnit and some other lesser crimes as well. There’s a nice closure with an unexpected ending, and I can’t wait to return to Star Junction.
Poppies, Perils, and Poison is a fun, cozy mystery with an amateur sleuth who has a lot of helpers and even laugh-out-loud moments as they try to figure out whodunnit!
Erica Wynters may have lived most of her life in the frigid Midwest, but now she spends her time in the warmth and sunshine of Arizona. She loves hiking, hunting down waterfalls in the desert, reading (of course), and napping. Can napping be considered a hobby? When not weaving tales of mystery with plenty of quirky characters, laughs, and a dash of romance, Erica works as a Marriage and Family Therapist helping others find their Happily Ever Afters.
