5-STAR REVIEW: NO ROAST FOR THE WEARY by Cleo Coyle

The Description

Coffeehouse Mystery Series: Book 21
Publication Date: April 1, 2025

When the Village Blend opens a Writer’s Block Lounge, a cold case crime turns up the heat on Clare and her crew in this gripping new entry in the beloved Coffeehouse Mystery series from New York Times bestselling author Cleo Coyle.

As much as master roaster Clare Cosi adores coffee, the landmark shop she manages won’t survive if she doesn’t sell enough of it. So when the Village Blend’s customer traffic grinds to a halt, she turns to her staff for creative ideas, and the Writer’s Block Lounge is born.

Madame, the eccentric octogenarian owner of the shop, is upset by this news. Years ago, a group of accomplished writers used the shop’s second-floor lounge to inspire each other, but the group disbanded when something dark occurred. Though that history is shrouded in mystery, Clare presses forward…

Soon the Village Blend tables are filled with aspiring novelists, playwrights, and poets, all happy to be coaxed, cajoled, and caffeinated by her coffeehouse crew. Clare admires the stamina of these scribes, many of them toiling at night jobs—driving taxis, tending bar, ushering for Broadway—while penning projects during the day.

Then one of their fictions turns fatal when a shocking secret leads to a deadly end. Unless Clare can untangle this mystery, uncover the truth, and stop a desperate killer, she fears more of these weary writers may be marked for eternal rest.

The Review

With coffee as its central theme, Author Cleo Coyle pens her 21st book in the Coffeehouse Mystery series with No Roast for the Weary.

I discovered from reading this story that coffee is a “thing” in certain circles. Which I wasn’t aware of until now.

Clare, the main character, is intelligent and funny. Most women could identify with her in one way or another. The book was fast-paced, the dialogue was well done, and the characters worked together. Another strong point is the mystery itself, which was fun and unpredictable. I also liked that coffee was in the midst of the plot. The smell, the taste, the sound of it pouring. Pure bliss in a cup, and I’m not a writer.  Haha.

I typically like easy reads where things are predictable but still manages to surprise me when the whodunnit is revealed.  We live in a crazy world, and I enjoy escaping reality for a little while by immersing myself in a world an author creates.

I’ve reviewed before for the now closed Romancing the Book. I love reading whether it’s an ebook or a good old-fashioned book book. The smell of a book is such a nice smell. I work with handicapped adults in my real life and I live in New York State.

  1. Hi, Lori — Thank you so much for this fantastic 5-star review! As you so beautifully put it, “We live in a crazy world, and I enjoy escaping reality for a little while by immersing myself in a world an author creates.” Marc and I are thrilled to know that you found a happy escape from this crazy world (for a little while anyway) by visiting our landmark Village Blend and all the characters in our Coffeehouse world. We’re also happy to know that you liked our amateur sleuth, Clare. She has her flaws, of course, as all fictional characters should, but she always tries to do her best in protecting the people she loves, and we’re glad to know you enjoyed her latest caffeinated adventure. Cheers again for your lovely review, and we hope you’ll return again to our Village Blend. (We’re writing the next book now.) Until then…

    With love from NYC,
    Cleo
