4.5-STAR REVIEW: NOT MY HUSBAND by Cathryn Grant

The Description

Publication Date: January 16, 2026

Today is the first day of my honeymoon, and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. But as I roll over to face my new husband, Jay, my scream breaks the silence… The man in bed with me is not the man I married.

I beg him to get out, but he laughs and says I’ve always had an overactive imagination. He tells me that I’ve been under a lot of stress lately, so my mind must be playing tricks on me. I don’t believe him, but as he begins to describe me walking down the aisle, and other details from the wedding that only Jay could know, it has my head spinning. I’m certain this isn’t my husband, so how does he know so much?

I rush out of the beautiful suite, ignoring the warm ocean breeze and scent of tropical flowers in the air. When I reach hotel reception, I beg for help, but instead of calling the police, the busy staff exchange worried looks. They think I’ve lost it.

Then the strange man who is not my husband, walks up behind me and drapes his arm around my shoulders. ‘Don’t make a fuss,’ he whispers in my ear. My heart races. I’m in paradise, but I’m trapped in a nightmare.

Why won’t anybody believe me when I say this isn’t the man I married? Who is he, and what has he done with my husband?

If you loved the TV show The White Lotus and books The Housemaid and The Perfect Marriage, then you will adore reading this truly nail-biting thriller from bestselling author, Cathryn Grant. It’s sure to keep you up all night!

The Review

The lush backdrop of Hawaii seems like a perfect place for Chelsea and Jay to exchange vows. Their beautiful moment is shattered the morning after.

Author Cathryn Grant delivers a psychological thriller in Not My Husband. The man lying next to Chelsea may claim to be Jay and have all the identifying documents, but he is not the man she married.

On the verge of collapse after resort staff and police doubt her claims, Chelsea is determined to find answers. A series of sinister events, including the discovery of a dead body, adds a definite layer of danger.

Using alternating perspectives, the author weaves in the viewpoint of an anonymous narrator who seems determined to destroy Chelsea’s hope. Ultimately, all the pieces come together in a shocking conclusion.

About The Author

Cathryn is the author of over thirty psychological suspense novels. The things that cause torment in real life—obsession and revenge, guilt and envy and longing—are endlessly fascinating in fiction, and she never grows tired of writing stories about characters struggling to overcome the worst. Cathryn also writes ghost stories because… who knows what lies beyond our senses.

When she’s not writing, she’s usually reading, walking on the beach, or playing golf, going way out of her way to avoid hitting her ball in the sand or the water. She lives on the Central California Coast with her husband and their cat, Cleopatra.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
