Publication Date: March 10, 2026

A USA TODAY bestseller!

At the suggestion of his girlfriend, June, Peter Ash rides to the aid of an investigative reporter who may have stumbled on a story more explosive than even he can handle in this propulsive new thriller from the bestselling and award-winning series.

Katelyn Thorsen, known as KT to her friends and enemies, is an independent journalist who receives a very specific death threat. Fortunately, Peter Ash has arrived in town to protect KT at the request of his girlfriend, June Cassidy. From the moment of his arrival, he’s thrown into a maelstrom of violence trying to protect KT and her daughter and discover the source of the death threat.

Even after June and Peter’s best friend Lewis arrive in Seattle to help, this challenge may be too much for them – with enormous consequences should they fail.

The Review

A seasoned Investigative journalist unknowingly stumbles upon information so explosive that she and her teen daughter are threatened.

Peter Ash, the boyfriend of KT’s friend, comes to the rescue, but it soon becomes clear that it is all too real. As the ninth installment of the series featuring Peter, author Nick Petrie introduces a destructive force in The Dark Time.

Relying on simple methods to draw followers by recording messages on audio cassettes like Osama bin Laden, the growing movement targets anyone who interferes with the master plan.

From the beginning, the author sets a chain of events in motion, kicking off plenty of suspense. It doesn’t take long to see that Peter’s military expertise will come in handy, but he will have to call in reinforcements.

Readers new to the series will have no trouble jumping in, as it works well as a standalone. However, this book would be a great place to start because it showcases Peter’s multi-dimensional character. His military career speaks for itself, but Peter’s determination to serve as a protector is front and center.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
