Summary

There are lots of storylines, and they are woven together nicely. There are twists and turns… Who will be the first to solve the whodunnit? There is closure, but the book ended too abruptly for me. There is a recipe for a dog treat at the back of the book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, PAWS FOR DEATH.

The Description

A Canine Confections Mystery: Book 2
Publication Date: March 22, 2021

When Samantha relaxes into her new role as a dog mom, finds a circle of friends in her new hometown, and sees her new dog bakery Canine Confections barking up business, she’s thrilled that things are going so well … until she hears a bloodcurdling scream from the pastry shop two doors down and runs over to find a dead body on the floor.

Suddenly Samantha finds herself in a race against time to find not only the thief who is stealing from the upscale shops, but a murderer, too. Samantha’s Lab-Mix Sweet Pea wags her tail through all of the clues, suspects and shenanigans. Both Samantha and Sweet Pea are aided in their amateur investigation by the other shopkeepers on the elegant Worth Avenue, and Samantha finds the suspect list growing at every turn.

To make matters worse, Samantha’s old boyfriend arrives in town, and mysterious people start showing up at the Sophisticated Pet and New Age stores nearby. Samantha soon finds that things are not what they seem, and she must figure out what’s going on—or become the next dead body on a bakery floor.

Includes an original recipe from the world-famous Three Dog Bakery!

The Review

Paws-for-Alarm-REVIEW-FBPAWS FOR ALARM is the second book in A CANINE CONFECTIONS MYSTERY series, and it was another fun-filled cozy mystery even if there were a lot of crimes being committed and another murder that needs to be solved. We’re reunited with Samantha and the other shop owners or workers on the ritzy shopping street in Palm Beach, Florida. Samantha’s dog, Sweet Pea, is once again in the heart of everything.

Samantha’s Aunt Mary has some financial problems, so does Samantha’s dog bakery, which her aunt put up the money for since business hasn’t picked up now that there’s another murder victim found. This time the victim is at the people bakery. We get to know the characters a little better as their friendships form but are still only scratching the surface. There are lots of storylines, and they are woven together nicely. Samantha’s ex-boyfriend shows up in town. Will she fall for his charm once again or let him know she’s not interested? Is there someone else that she has her eye on?

There are twists and turns with quite a few illnesses, and Samantha once again is trying to solve the murder of who killed Dominique and is it the same person stealing things from the businesses. She seems to be one step ahead of the cops, and Detective Trumble isn’t happy that she’s in the thick of things again. Who will be the first to solve the whodunnit? There is closure, but the book ended too abruptly for me. The cover is colorful and playful and gives a hint that the story is set at Halloween. There is a recipe for a dog treat at the back of the book.

I look forward to reading the next book in the series, PAWS FOR DEATH.
