The Description

Publication Date: April 11, 2023

Every mother worries about their child. But Sara Harmon fears hers…

When a teen falls while taking a selfie at the edge of a cliff, the last thing she sees before plummeting to her death is Katie Harmon, the nine-year-old girl she was babysitting, looking down at her.

Investigators gather at the scene, and Katie’s mother, Sara, rushes to comfort her daughter. Yet there’s a small, secret ping of alarm in Sara’s heart that she cannot share—though rookie detective Kim Pierce senses it.

For years, others have tried to unravel this secret. From true-crime podcasters to a haunted journalist searching for a killer who vanished after being released from prison several years ago. And now, with detectives tightening the focus of their investigation, Sara is consumed by her darkest fear—that the babysitter’s death was not an accident.

The Review

Sara Harmon has fiercely guarded a secret that forces her to continually look over her shoulder. When her daughter, Katie, is the only witness to the family babysitter falling to her death, Harmon worries there is more to the story than what is being told.

With his signature flair for twisty thrillers, author Rick Mofina shines the spotlight on a mother’s fear that Katie has inherited violent traits tied to the big secret. Everything She Feared delivers a spine-tingling storyline.

Detective Kim Pierce may not have decades of service under her belt, but her intuition tells her the key to solving the investigation lies with young Katie Harmon. Pierce’s determination to discover the truth leads to a much deeper investigation.

There’s a dual storyline that unfolds regarding the whereabouts of convicted serial killer Magda Vryker who served two decades in prison before being released. She had flown under the radar for seven years, despite the efforts of online groups trying to locate her. However, the brother of one of her victims uses his journalistic skills to dig deeper into Vryker’s past and discovers a daughter.

Amy Wilson
My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
