5-STAR REVIEW: ONE WRONG MOVE by Dani Pettrey

About The Book

Jeopardy Falls: Book 1
Publication Date: February 6, 2024

Taunting riddles.
A deadly string of heists.
Two broken hearts trapped in a killer’s game.

Christian O’Brady was pulled into a life of crime at a young age by his con artist parents. Now making amends for his corrupt past, he has become one of the country’s foremost security experts. When a string of Southwestern art heists targets one of the galleries Christian secured, he is paired up with a gifted insurance investigator who has her own checkered past.

Andi Forester was a brilliant FBI forensic analyst until one of her colleagues destroyed her career, blaming her for mishandling evidence. She now puts those skills to work investigating insurance fraud, and this latest high-stakes case will test her gift to the limit. Drawn deep into a dangerous game with an opponent bent on revenge, Christian and Andi are in a race against the clock to catch him, but the perpetrator’s game is far from finished, and one wrong move could be the death of them both.

The Review

Two characters with checkered pasts get pulled into a deadly art heist investigation.

Author Dani Pettrey delivers the first installment in the Jeopardy Falls series with One Wrong Move. Set against the picturesque background of New Mexico, the community offers plenty of interesting characters for future development.

When the local art gallery gets robbed, Christian O’Brady gets called in since he installed what was supposed to be an impenetrable security system. In spite of his early criminal background, Christian has worked hard to chart a new path.

He meets Andi Forester, insurance fraud investigator, and they team up to find the culprit. Still smarting from her failed FBI career, Andi is trying to regain her confidence. Together, they get drawn into a cat-and-mouse game with the perpetrators.

This investigation comes with a trail of bodies, forcing Christian and Andi to trust their instincts and race against time.

Both main characters demonstrate a strong sense of faith that comforts them as the tension mounts. The author provides exceptional role models with these characters, acknowledging their brokenness while seeking redemption. The quality of the writing makes this a top-notch h reading experience.

One Wrong Move combines suspense with faith for an engaging story.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
