5-STAR REVIEW: AND SHE WAS NEVER THE SAME AGAIN by Natasha Pryde Trujillo Ph.D.

The Description

Publication Date: April 28, 2024

And She Was Never the Same Again is about you. It is about your family and your friends, everyone you’ve ever met, and all the strangers you have yet to meet.

It takes you on a journey of gains and losses that stretch generations, cultures, identities, and decades of time. It awakens you to the inevitable and makes you look at things most people want to avoid seeing. It explores near-death experiences; medical, individual, and intergenerational trauma; the stigmatized death of a partner; perfectionism; athletics; first loves; and the gaping holes that become permanent fixtures within us when those we love the most die.

You will feel, you will learn, you will grown, and you will never be the same again.

The Review

Delving into a raw reflection of relationships requires courage, especially when trying to make sense of our lives.

Through a collection of narratives, psychologist/author Natasha Pryde Trujillo explores the losses that affected her perceptions the most. She packages them in a thought-provoking book titled, And She Was Never the Same Again.

The book also comes with a discussion guide that helps readers through the deep emotional themes introduced such as illness, death, uncertainty, etc. Using examples from her own life, reinforced by interviews with family members, the author shows how trauma, grief and loss can alter those involved.

The ultimate goal of sharing these experiences is to encourage people to embrace the messiness of the human condition. This isn’t a “how to” book or an academic textbook. Instead, it demonstrates how we learn to adapt in spite of those difficult circumstances.

About The AuthorDr. Trujillo is a counseling and sport psychologist, consultant, educator, author, and human. Labels don’t make her better or worse-equipped to deal with inevitable grief throughout life. She’s passionate about the power of storytelling and wanted to illustrate nuanced ways we cope with grief. Like you, she’s had losses and decided risking vulnerability may encourage others to redefine relationships with loss to live more holistic and intentional lives. She hopes this limited collection of stories can build the realization that there’s no “right” way to grieve.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
