About The Book

Publication Date: January 22, 2016

Kathleen Jones has lived a protected and typical suburban life, nothing unexpected in her carefully controlled and planned existence. She’s about to complete her college degree and is ready to start a successful career but after completing her last exam she comes home to find her world has been turned upside down. Her home has been torched and her parents and little brother killed.

If that’s not bad enough, she is kidnapped and drugged unconscious by strangers posing as a police officers. When she awakes she discovers that everything has changed – her face, her name, and everything she believed to be true.

But things get worse. Hardly recovered from surgery, she is whisked away under the cover of darkness as more men storm the clinic with guns. It seems that the men who abducted her are not her greatest threat. Now on a private charter on its way to Nice, France, her abductors are calling her Ruby – Ruby Draker!

Finding Ruby Draker is a novel about knowing yourself, accepting change, embracing danger, and taking risks. You never know what life is going to throw at you.

The Review

In the blink of an eye, Kathleen Jones woke up with a new face, a new identity, and a new family. Swept away into a new life, she tries to reconcile who she once was with who she is becoming. Author Marianne Scott delivers an action-packed thriller in Finding Ruby Draker.

This is one of those stories that requires readers to push the pause button on reality and simply embrace the concept that a CIA spy with psychotic tendencies has a hit list featuring entire families. At the same time, there is also a rogue group of survivors trying to stop him.

Watching Kathleen/Ruby try to adjust to her new circumstances was painful, especially since she didn’t have enough information to know who to trust. Thrust into the midst of a ready-made family where everyone’s name (including the dogs) starts with the letter “R,” is rather strange. Yet it seemed par for the course when she began self-defense training, clearly indicating that this wasn’t a typical family.

The mission of the story focuses on her evolution into someone else. While it’s not the future she had planned, Ruby reinvents herself in the fight to stop the agent from marking other names off the hit list. In the process, she learns how to accept her new circumstances and embrace danger to ensure a safer tomorrow.

From start to finish, Finding Ruby Draker pushes the limits of the main character to ultimately forge a path where she must risk everything to save her new life.

My name is Amy W., and I am a book addict. I will never forget the day I came home from junior high school to find my mom waiting for me with one of the Harlequin novels from my stash. As she was gearing up for the "you shouldn't be reading this" lecture, I told her the characters get married in the end. I'm just glad she didn't find the Bertrice Small book hidden in my closet. I have diverse reading tastes, evident by the wide array of genres on my Kindle. As I made the transition to an e-reader, I found myself worrying that something could happen to it. As a result, I am now the proud owner of four Kindles -- all different kinds, but plenty of back-ups! "Fifty Shades of Grey" gets high marks on my favorites list -- not for character development or dialogue (definitely not!), but because it blazed new ground for those of us who believe provocative fiction is more than just an explicit cover. Sylvia Day, Lexie Blake, and Kristin Hannah are some of my favorite authors. Speaking of diverse tastes, I also enjoy Dean Koontz, Iris Johansen, and J.A. Konrath. I’m always ready to discover new-to-me authors, especially when I toss in a palate cleanser that is much different than what I would normally read. Give me something with a well-defined storyline, add some suspense (or spice), and I am a happy reader. Give me a happily ever after, and I am downright giddy.
